Many people come to me who already have a Guru and sometimes many Gurus in their life to support their Spiritual Journey. And the problem is that their Guru is not providing any support to Heal them, Heal their Karmic Wounds, showing them ways to heal, change perception and move on. They often hear one line statement that Guru is NOT a Healer/Therapist.
Well, that's a very sad state of affairs and people often ask - Are Spiritual Gurus just for spiritual talks/discourses/practice/sadhana discussions only, and should they not be looking into Karmic Pasts, discuss the remaining wounds, seeds and help the student/disciple parch them, burn them successfully?
It's a very sensitive question to answer because everyone has a wounded karmic past, everyone is carrying emotional wounds, and pain within. Those who have acknowledged the existence of that pain within are looking for remedy through different means and many are using this pain to change life-style, find deeper meaning to life, and yet many are using this pain to transcend the limitations of body, mind and emotions.
Real Gurus are very less, and the population of students/disciples is very large. Hence it may not be possible to council/discuss the pains of everyone, but this fact doesn't deny the "need" to do so. A guru is not just your spiritual guide to discuss Sadhana/Practices, share Wisdom, but a true Guru is like a Mother, who just wants child’s ultimate well-being, and for that is ready to at times scold, hold, love, befriend, energise, teach, help, heal or do whatever is necessary. Only a TOTAL Existence (Self-Realised Guru) can hold, heal and do whatever it takes to really bring out another Total Existence in a person.
Yes, many Gurus do not want to be therapist/healer and such Gurus are nothing more than University Professors who wants to stick to their subject only, without ever helping students learn the relationship between subjects like Physics and Biology.
Life is holistic, Spiritual Journey is holistic, it includes pain, vasanas, sanskaras, karma and all that can be included, because a Being is inclusive of everything. Pain is part of the journey, and if it's stopping the spiritual growth of any student/disciple then a Guru must advise ways, understanding regarding how to relieve it, how to heal it and let go, move on.
I have full respect for the importance of Guru Lineages, and Conventional Wisdom, but Ultimate Wisdom is “Becoming Love”, Total Love. That’s where all the Power/Shakti of the Creator is. We can only change someone partially/mentally/emotionally through words, but we can Transform anyone, anything with Love, not just people, but places, 5 Elements, Celestial Beings, Cosmos, anything.
Self-Realised Gurus are Total Love. Hence they are more like Mothers than University Professors.
Blessings to all,
